The Society of American Indian Dentists is pleased to launch a Mentorship Program. This program introduces Native American dental students to dental professionals who are members of the Society of American Indian Dentists. The program fosters relationships between practitioners and students during their training and could encourage students to actively participate in SAID beyond dental school graduation. It provides support to students looking for additional information in their dental career and seeking opinions from "someone who has been there." Students can obtain advice and guidance for some of the concerns involved in beginning a dental career and use their mentor as a source of support to help them explore different career paths as a Native American dentist.
How does the Mentor Program work
Interested students and dentists complete screening forms. The forms will be used to pair students with a dentist. Each program participant is asked to commit for one year, though long term informal professional relationships may continue.
Mentors and mentees will be asked to reach out to one another by telephone or email and can define how they want the relationship to progress. Dr. Felicia Fontenot will check in with each match quarterly to determine how the relationship is progressing. A social gathering will be planned for the 2018 SAID Conference to celebrate the relationships developed and continue to the new cycle of matches.
How to participate
To participate fill out the appropriate form below. Your form will be emailed to Dr. Felicia Fontenot. Should you have any questions you can email Dr. Fontenot.
